The Low Vision Centers of Indiana
Reading Telescopes Expanded Field
Designs for Vision ®

When a patient requires both magnification and a greater working distance than allowed with microscopes, telescopes may be capped to allow reading at arms length. Two can be mounted and angled in-ward to match the turning in of the eyes and thus maintain binocular vision. Our experience has shown the 4X system when capped for near, provides a good binocular system. It has greater weight and must be carefully fit.

The system pictured here is used by a patient with pathological myopia and retinal detachments. A filter was required to control intense photophobia secondary to the retinal detachments.
