eyeFINE

How was eyeFINE developed?

The inspiration for eyeFINE began 30 years ago with an idea by Toshinori Tsuchiya, M.D., an eye doctor at Miyazaki Chuou Eye Hospital. It was the idea of using camera technology to help the visually impaired. A chance discussion with the president of camera manufacturer Nitto Kogaku K. K.,  at a golf course, decades later led to the development of the eyeFINE as a joint venture between two companies,  Keimei and Nitto Kogaku K.K.

Dr. Richard Windsor with
Pat, the first patient
fit with eyeFINE in the United States.

When was eyeFINE first fit in the United States?

Dr. Richard L. Windsor, our senior associate, fit the first US patient in September of 2003 at the Low Vision Center of Indianapolis. The patient presented with vision loss from diabetic retinopathy.

Where can I be tested for eyeFINE?

In the near future, eyeFINE may be available from many doctors specializing in low vision. Currently the doctors at the Low Vision Centers of Indiana are fitting the eyeFINE system.
