Half-Eye Prism Reading MicroscopesThe Low Vision Centers of Indiana

Half-Eye Prism Microscopes allow binocular vision. They are often one of the early aids prescribed to help reading. Unlike many other low vision reading corrections, both eyes can be used. They can be prescribed in powers from +5.00 (1.25X) to + 16.00 (4X).

They can be prescribed as a stock system without the patient's prescription or they can be custom fabricated to include the patient's full prescription. This decision is based on the amount of astigmatism and the difference between the two eyes. The decision whether to prescribe with the patient's refractive prescription should be made by the low vision optometrist or ophthalmologist.
