How to use the VES-AF

coverfinished.gif (7208 bytes)

1. Always make certain that all parts of the VES-AF are in proper condition before you put it on.

a. Check to be certain that all screws in the temple hinges and mounting brackets are tight. DO NOT wear a loose unit until it is properly adjusted by your eyecare specialist.

b. Check that the fit of the temples, nosepads, and telescope are proper. If out of adjustment seek appropriate servicing.

c. Make certain the power cable and battery pack are securely positioned and out of the way to avoid catching them on an obstacle. Always have the battery pack attached to your body-either in a pocket or clipped to a belt. The battery cable does not detach from the telescope housing.

2. Turn the power switch to the "on" position. The VES-AF will go through a short "self-test." After that it should be focusing automatically wherever you look from 12 inches to infinity.

3. Look first through the regular eyeglass lens of the VES--AF . It should provide your customary distance vision. Look directly at the object you want to magnify. Drop your head slightly and look up into the eyepiece. You should see a full, round magnified image that is in sharp focus. Practice switching between the carrier lens and the telescope until you can do it easily and without losing your target.

4. Here are some suggestions for using the VES-AF:

a. If you find the VES-AF jumping back and forth, move your head in or out slightly. This may stabilize the focus.

b. If the AF is always out of focus, make certain it is still adjusted for your eye. If it has changed, see your eyecare specialist to have it refocused.

c. If the focus is not on the object that you want to look at, try to position the target in the middle of the telescope field of view.

d. Objects that pass in front of what you're looking at will cause the VES- AF to change focus. Turn the VES-AF off while looking at the distance you want to keep for a period of time (TV, movies, lectures). Turn it back on when you are ready to return to AF mode.

e. At times the autofocus will have difficulty focusing on or through certain surfaces such as shiny surfaces and windows and mirrors. If the focus is improper or unstable, you should look at a different surface or object at the same distance as the object of interest that allows proper focus and then shut the autofocus off. Since the focus will now remain at that fixed distance, you can return to the object of interest and see it clearly.

f. Since the VES-AF does not need to focus when looking at objects beyond 20 feet, there may be times when it will not need to be turned on. When traveling in a moving vehicle it is recommended that the VES-AF be set for focus beyond 20 feet and then be shut off.

5. Remember to turn the VES-AF off when not in use!
