Vision Rehab. Clinic Moves to Larger Facilities in Fort Wayne

The Vision Rehabilitation Clinic, our Fort Wayne low vision center, has moved to new, larger facilities at Constitution Hill Office Park. The tremendous growth of our practice has come from the generous referrals of our colleagues. We wish to thank our referring doctors and therapists/ Our centers are dedicated to providing the highest level of low vision care while treating each patient as a friend. We provide low vision care for such conditions as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, RP, albinism and rehabilitative care for visual problems after stroke and head injury. We work with all age levels. We see patients from throughout northern Indiana, southern Michigan , eastern Illinois and northwestern Ohio.

Dr. Windsor is 1996 OD of the Year

The Indiana Optometric Association has named Dr. Richard Windsor as the 1996 Optometrist of the Year. Dr, Windsor is the the first optometrist in the history to win all four of the major awards given by the IOA to optometrists. He has previously been rewarded with the President's Citation as the Outstanding Young Optometrist of the Year, the Distinguished Service Award and twice recipient of the Meritorious Service Award. Dr Windsor is also a past recipient of the Fox Optical Award as the Outstanding Senior Clinician at the Indiana University School of Optometry in 1973. Dr. Windsor is past President of the IOA and and the Indiana Low Vision Rehabilitation Association, and currently serves on the national board of directors of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association. He has lectured extensively on vision rehabilitation throughout the United States and is the author of a recent chapter on providing low vision care to home bound and nursing home patient. Dr. Windsor was sited for his work in developing programs to care for the partially sighted in Indiana.

Special Dinnerware for Low Vision Patients

Independent Lifestyle Dinnerware, has developed a line of innovative dinnerware which aids the profoundly impaired to see to eat easier. Everything we see is related to the contrast of the object and the background. Patients have often been advised to put light colored food on dark plates and dark colored food on light plates. These new plates are dark blue on one side and cream on the other half. A raised curved rim around the edge prevents food from being knocked off the plate. Bowls and cups are also available.

CCTV Today: Better and Less Costly Technology

Closed Circuit television has long been an excellent low vision aid. The cost, however, has often prevented use by many low vision patients. The technology has now become more affordable for our patients. The newest price breakthrough is the Tiny Cam. A system that which sells for $ 595.00. It utilizes a hand held camera, which can be attached to any any television. It provides both positive and negative images. This system is quite user friendly. The Tiny Cam is available on a trial sixty day refund period. We were excited to be the first practice in the state of Indiana to introduce the Tiny Cam.

The Aladdin CCTV system is a redesign of the Voyager CCTV, which has been popular with low vision patients for many years. The Aladdin perhaps the easiest of all CCTV's to use. Telesensory designed the system with a simple lever on each side to change the type of image (to positive or negative) and a lever on the other side to adjust image size.

The Aladdin system sells for $ 1795.00 plus $45.00 shipping and handling. The system has a thirty day return policy and a five year warranty. We are pleased to be dealers for the Aladdin. The response from our patients has been great. Aladdin system are prescribed only at our facilities.
