Bioptic driving began in California in the 1970s to help those with visual impairments operate motor vehicles. Today there are over thirty five states that allow bioptic driving, as well as many other countries around the world. Bioptic driving allows some individuals with visual impairments to gain greater independence by allowing them to drive.

This video details who are candidates for bioptic driving and the regulations and requirements for becoming a bioptic driver in the state of Indiana. It also explains what types of training the patient must go through to become a safe and efficient driver.
