Patient Instructions
For Using the VES-AF

coverfinished.gif (7208 bytes)

A. Become familiar with the parts of the VES-AF. They include:

1. the telescope -the telescope contains all of the optics to magnify the image and to measure the focus distance, as well as the electronics and motor to operate the system. The telescope has a front window and a rear eyepiece that is focusable to correct for the individual prescription. Once the eyepiece is set for the eye, it need not be readjusted. A power cable is permanently attached to the side of the telescope to connect to the rechargeable battery.

2. the frame and telescope mounting- the frame holds the telescope as well as the eyeglass prescription (if needed) called the "carrier lens". The telescope is attached to the frame by way of a bridge mounting assembly held in place by two set screws. When loosened, these screws allow the telescope to be slid right and left to align the telescope eyepiece properly for the user, and also to set the proper angle of the telescope so that when the user drops their head to sight through the device, it comes into a proper straight-ahead position. The telescope eyepiece protrudes through the carrier lens for the eye that will use the VES-AF and is positioned above the normal line of sight of the eye.

IMPORTANT

The telescope DOES NOT clip-off the frame. The frame mounting assembly provides a limited range of tilt angle. DO NOT force the angle beyond its free range of adjustment. THIS MAY DAMAGE the telescope and result in a costly repair.

3. the battery pack and recharger-
the battery pack will operate the VES-AF for about 12 hours. It has an on-off switch and a single socket in the top which will accept either the power cable from the telescope or the charger cable from the recharger transformer. When recharging the unit make certain the power switch is turned off. The battery pack must be charged for at least 4 hours before its first use. Recharge it every night. You cannot overcharge the battery. The red light on the battery will be lit only when the battery is connected to the charger and will remain lit until it is disconnected. The battery will become warm when charging, but not while being used.

If the battery pack has insufficient charge, the VES-AF will go into "sleep mode." Simply recharge the battery to restore normal operation.

IMPORTANT

Do not disconnect the power cables by pulling on the wire itself. Handle the cable by the jack only.
