Microscopic Bifocals Type R and Type E
Designs for Vision ®

The Design for Vision Type R and E microscopic bifocals provide excellent optics in magnification powers of 2X to 10X. The patient's prescription can be incorporated in the rear lens of this true doublet microscope. The cosmetic appearance is good. These systems do require a very close working distance. The optics, at the higher powers, are much better than single lens microscopes.

We have been prescribing these systems for over twenty-five years with excellent results. We featured an article in our 1993 newsletter on one of our macular degeneration patient's use of these systems for 19 years. This patient continues to use this type of system today, twenty-four years later.

Mildred, A Very Special Patient at Age 102

Image of MildredIn 1974, Dr. Windsor prescribed a Designs for Vision Type R microscopic bifocal to allow Mildred, a macular degeneration patient, to read again. Twenty-six years later at age 102, Mildred was still reading with a Type R microscope. Dr. Windsor had refit her to higher power systems about every five years, but has been able to keep Mildred reading.
