The Low Vision Centers of Indiana
Beecher Mirage ® with Nearpoint Caps

The Beecher Mirage is an excellent binocular telescopic system. We prescribe this frequently for macular degeneration patients to view television and special events. When a nearpoint cap is placed over the front of one lens, it becomes a high power reading system. Depending on the power of the cap, a range of distances can be brought into focus. A lower power cap might work well for viewing music at 20 inches while a stronger power cap might allow reading of small print at 10 inches. The use of a cap requires experience with the Beecher. We prefer to fit the system, and then loan trial caps for the patient to experiment with at home.

A  Near Beecher System of 5.5X power has just been released. We are evaluating at our centers.
