PVA
Personal Vision Assistant:
The Doctor’s CCTV
I am writing to introduce you to the Personal Vision Assistant (PVA), an exciting new CCTV system. I have been a low vision specialist for twenty-seven years and was actively involved in the design of this system. I
wanted to develop a simple system that was easy for patients to use, but also contained features like full XY-Table mount, auto focus, color, white on black and black on white contrast. I wanted a lightweight system that could be easily transported to another location. I wanted a system that could connect to any size television monitor. To develop this system I have worked with a major producer of CCTVs to create the Personal Vision Assistant.
PVA has full color, white on black and black on white contrast. It is 350,000 pixel camera with up to 70X. magnification possible on a 20 inch TV.
PVA has a 60-day trial period in which the system may be returned for a full credit minus the initial shipping charges. Return shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser.
PVA’s simplicity has made it popular with seniors. It is easy to operate and not intimidating to the patient. It has been the most successful system I have dispensed to macular degeneration patients.
PVA has continuous auto focus and a bumper on the XY table that holds reading material straight. Margin locks allow easy reading of columns of print. A small control module can sit on either side of the table to allow easy push button changes in magnification and contrast. Even arthritic hands can use these simple push buttons.
It’s transportable! The camera arm detaches easily and comes with a plain black carrying case that allows the owner to take it easily with them to a new location. Those patients wintering in another location can easily take it with them.
The camera comes with a magnetic mirror attachment that
allows the patient to see their own face to put on makeup or shave or to see the face of others.
As an alternative to the XY table, each unit comes with a clamp to allow it to be mounted directly on a work desk or over a sewing machine.
PVA can be attached to any television monitor. Televisions without AV ports will require the use of an RF modulator, which cost less than $30 and is available at any Radio Shack (Part number 15-1244).
Patients may use or obtain their own television or you have the option of obtaining television monitors locally and prescribe the complete system. We recommend a 19-inch or larger television. Profoundly impaired patients may prefer a 25 or 27inch television monitor.
Since the monitor can be changed, if the patient loses more vision, a larger monitor can be added easily that increases the magnification.
