Carl Zeiss Inc. is one of the
worlds foremost makers of fine optical instruments. Many of the surgical
microscopes used by eye surgeons are made by Zeiss.
The Zeiss G 1.8 is a low power
telescopic system with an exceptionally wide field of view.
It can be used for distance
viewing such as watching television.
Telescopic
system with a Galilean design and magnification of 1.8x, convertible to a "teleloupe"
system by the attachment of clip-on lenses on the object side for near
vision.
Telescopic
Spectacles G 1.8 are used monocularly or binocularly by persons with low
vision in order to magnify objects in the distance to such an extent that
they become visible again.

The
object-side attachment of clip-on lenses turns the telescopic system into a
"teleloupe" system.
The
appropriate magnification makes it possible for the user to identify
close-up objects and to read standard print sizes.
The Zeiss G 1.8 is excellent for
television viewing for many visually-impaired patients.
A variety of power caps are
available. Each has potential to set the focus at different distances from 1
yard to a few inches,
A Bifocal Near Cap allows the
patient to see at distance through the top and at a selected near
distance through the bottom of the telescope.
With the near cap attached the
Zeiss g1.8X is excellent for seeing to play cards.
Due to the
parallel position of the telescope systems, only monocular use is possible
in near vision.
The other
lens can be covered with a frosted clip-on lens
or left clear.
