Dr. Richard Windsor Appointed Distinguished Practitioner

Dr. Richard Windsor has been honored as a Distinguished Practitioner of the National Academy of Practice (NAP). Dr. Windsor received the NAP’s Distinguished Practitioner Medal at ceremonies on May 10, 2003 in Arlington , Virginia. The NAP is an interdisciplinary organization founded to advise governmental bodies on issues in healthcare. Membership is composed of outstanding practitioners and scholars in ten fields of healthcare.

Dr. Windsor is only the 86th in his field to receive this high honor and only the third Indiana doctor of optometry to be appointed as a “Distinguished Practitioner” and  was also the 33rd practitioner to receive the American Optometric Association’s, “National Optometrist’s of the Year Award.”  He is also the first practitioner to receive all four major annual awards of the Indiana Optometric Association, including the Optometrist of the Year, President’s Citation,  Distinguished Service Award and two Meritorious Service Awards. At Indiana University, he received the Fox Optical Award as the outstanding senior clinician. Dr.  Windsor is known for his clinical work and lecturing in the fields of low vision rehabilitation and the rehabilitation of vision problems after brain injury.
